Recovered Paper Grades Smurfit-Stone's Recycling division has a broad product line that includes all grades of recovered paper. Our products are available in baled and loose form and shipped in full loads by truck, rail or containers to customers in the United States, Asia, Europe, Canada, Mexico, and South America. Our line of paper grades includes:
Old Corrugated Containers (OCC): These containers consist of baled corrugated containers having liners of test liner, jute, or kraft. This material is generated by retail and grocery stores, manufacturers, warehouses, and other commercial generators and is mainly used in the manufacture of medium and linerboard, the components that make up a corrugated container. A corrugated container is made up of layers of corrugating medium flanked by linerboard on one or both sides.
Mixed Papers: Mixed paper is a clean sorted mix of various quality recycled papers. This material is generated by residential curbside collection systems, material recycling facilities, and printers. Mixed paper is used as a filler grade in the manufacture of boxboard and medium for corrugated containers. Magazines: Magazines consist of baled coated magazines, catalogs, and similar printed materials. This grade may contain a small percentage of uncoated news-type paper. This material is generated by magazine distributors. Magazines are used in the manufacture of newsprint.
Sorted Office Paper: Sorted Office Paper (also called Office Pack) consists of baled paper containing primarily white and colored groundwood free paper. This paper is also free of unbleached fiber. It may include a small percentage of groundwood computer printout and fax paper. Sorted Office paper is generated by office collection systems and is used in the manufacture of tissue and toweling.
Coated Book Stock: Coated Book Stock consists of: coated groundwood free paper; printed or unprinted coated stock in sheets; shavings; and guillotined books and cuttings. A reasonable percentage of paper containing fine groundwood may be included. This material is generated by printers. Coated Book Stock is used in the manufacture of newsprint, fine paper, and pulp subs.
Sorted White Ledger: Sorted White Ledger consists of printed or unprinted sheets, shavings, guillotined books, cuttings of white groundwood free ledger, and other papers that have similar fiber and filler content. This grade must be free of treated, coated, padded, or heavily printed stock. This material is generated by office collection systems and printers. Sorted White Ledger is used in the manufacture of fine papers.
Hard White Shavings: Hard White Shavings are generated by printers and consists of baled shavings of sheets of untreated groundwood free paper or sheets of white groundwood free paper. Hard White Shavings are used in the manufacture of fine papers. |
