Frequently Asked Questions

1) Where can I find current job openings at SSCC?

Salaried positions are listed on Monster.com and Hotjobs.com. Hourly positions can be applied for at each of our facilities.

2) Can I send in my resume if I don’t see a job that interests me?

Unfortunately, due to sheer volume, we cannot accept unsolicited resumes.  Please apply for one of the posted job openings.

3) Where do I send my resume?

Each posted job ad will have details on how and where to submit your resume.  Some go directly to the hiring manager, while others filter through Human Resources.  Please see the listings for more details.

4) How can I get more information on a posted job?

Each job will have contact information specific to that position – you may submit questions to the contact given there. However, due to the scope of our company, please submit a new resume for each position you apply for.

5) How long are resumes kept on file?

Resumes are kept active for one year and on file for 2 years after submission.

6) When will I hear back about my submitted resume?

Due to the large number of resumes we receive for each job posting, we cannot reply to all applicants.  We will contact those candidates who most closely match our needs within a few weeks of submission.

7) Do you hire non-US citizens?

It is our guideline to hire only individuals qualified to work in the US per federal guidelines.

8) What benefits do you offer?

Smurfit-Stone offers a very competitive benefits package, including medical/dental/vision, 401K, paid holidays and vacation, tuition reimbursement, life and AD&D insurance.

Relocation is not guaranteed, but determined on a case-by-case basis.  Costs may be partially or fully covered depending on the location, position, and candidate.

10)  What charitable contributions does SSCC make?

One of our most important constituents is our community.  Each year, Smurfit-Stone conducts a corporation-wide campaign for United Way.  Individually, our facilities have participated in projects and fundraised for a variety of great organizations, including (but not limited to) the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Habitat for Humanity, Chicago Cares, various breast cancer research foundations, and local homeless shelters, food kitchens, and holiday initiatives.

Smurfit-Stone values our employees and believes in promoting from within.  We currently have several high-ranking executives who started out in production positions on the plant floor.  With hard work and training, there is no limit to the possibilities.
